Adams County, in partnership with Anythink Libraries, is seeking a Poet Laureate for a two-year residency. This prestigious position offers a local poet the opportunity to advance their artistic practice while serving as a public ambassador for the county. The Poet Laureate will engage with Adams County's diverse population of over 527,000 residents, spanning urban, suburban, and rural landscapes, through community programming, original works, and performances. Sixty percent of residents are bilingual, and poets who write and perform in multiple languages are encouraged to apply.
The Poet Laureate will develop and execute a program that makes poetry accessible to all. This includes creating workshops, events, community projects, and performances at Anythink Libraries and other county facilities. The selected poet will also produce original poems reflecting the beauty, challenges, and opportunities of Adams County, culminating in an anthology featuring their work alongside poems by local residents. Additionally, the Poet Laureate will perform original works at various county events, up to ten times per year.
The residency, running from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027, will begin with a planning and development phase, followed by public programming from January 2026 to June 2027. Eligible Colorado-based poets with a connection to Adams County and experience in writing, performing, and community engagement are encouraged to apply. The selection process involves a panel review of applications, including a letter of interest, statements about connection to Adams County and community engagement approach, a resume, writing samples, and performance samples. Finalists will receive a $750 honorarium to develop a project proposal and participate in an interview. The deadline for applications is March 9th.
